This research is under the guidance of Dr. Bahrani, M.Pd., as the first advisor and Widya Noviana Noor, M.Pd., as the second advisor.
The background of the research is that students' English achievement is still lacking because the seriousness of students in participating in learning is still low so that the lesson scores are not maximal. 43,3% of students who still scored below the Minimum completeness criteria, namely 75. This was due to several factors including teaching and learning activities still did not vary so that it became less effective and tend to be boring. The purpose of this research was to determine the effectiveness of using YouTube videos in improving English achievement for fifth grade students at MIN 1 Samarinda.
This type of research is a quantitative research, taking research subjects at MIN 1 Samarinda. The research method uses True Experiment Research. The research population was in class V, and the sample in this research used two classes, namely the experimental class V C and the control class V A with a purposive sampling technique. The experimental class uses YouTube video and the control class does not use YouTube video media or conventional learning. The test used to collect data is pre-test and post-test. Then the data analyzed by using t-test with the IBM SPSS Statistics Version 26 application.
The researcher found that was 92 (experimental class) and 82.5 (control class). Next, the statistical test results (independent t-test) found that it was 0.000 the result was < 0.05, so alpha probability < 0.05. Whilst scores N-Gain in the experimental class of 74.5% is included in the high category, Whereas the score test N-Gain control class of 39.5% is included in the medium category. Based on the results of these statistical tests. It can be concluded that the use of YouTube Video to Improv Students’ English Achievement in class V MIN 1 Samarinda is effective.</note>
