This research was conducted under the guidance of Mr. Dr. H. Shafa, M.Pd., as the first supervisor, and Miss. Nadia Sya'ya, M.P.d, M.TESOL., as the second supervisor.
Discussion about teacher is always interesting, because the success of the teaching and learning in the classroom based on the teacher. The teacher can create a fun or boring learning atmosphere. The teacher also becomes a facilitator who engages students in an active learning process. However, in practice, teacher often gets a problem when teaching in class, including English. Therefore, this research was conducted to determine the problems that might occur in teaching English and the factors of the problem so that these problems can be found a solution.
The research used a qualitative descriptive approach. The subject of this study was eighth grade teacher at SMPN 2 Penajam Paser Utara for the 2021/2022 academic year. The data collections are interviews, documentation, and observation. The data analyzed is the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Sugiono. The reliability of the data obtained from the credibility of the triangulation, namely: source, technique and time.
The results of the research, there are several problems faced by teacher in teaching  English:  (1)  Problems  related  to  lesson  planning  such  as  teaching planning cannot be fully implemented, so resulting in the inappropriate delivery of the material and lack of time; (2) Problems related to teacher professional competences such as teacher difficult to improve students skills and teacher lack of vocabulary; (3) Problems related to students such as difficulty understanding the material, lack of motivation and the student's lack of discipline; (4) Problems related to strategies and methods that teacher difficult to find the good methods and strategies to teach and the methods and strategies used need to be improved; (5)  Problems  related  to  classroom  management  that  teacher  managed  the classroom lack of effective, so the learning atmosphere not conducive. The factors that influence the problems   faced by teacher are as follows: (1) Impact of pandemic covid-19 such as limited time to teach and some facilities non- functional; (2) Teacher professional competences such as the teacher knowledge and feeling bored to teach; (3) Lack of students motivation ; (4) lack of facilities.</note>
