Teachers‟ materials  are  part  of  a  series  of  teaching  and  learning  activities. Teaching materials is one of an element of instructional design. Teaching materials are also said to be a reference and a means for a teacher to convey the material. The use of teaching  materials  can  increase  and  direct  students'  attention  so  that  it  can  lead  to student‟s motivation in learning, interactions that take place between students and their environment and make students learn independently according to their abilities and interests. This study aims, firstly to find out the teaching materials used by teachers in teaching English at SMPN 2 Tanjung Palas, and secondly to find out how to apply teaching materials used at SMPN 2 Tanjung Palas.
This kind of research is qualitative. Data analysis is descripstive qualitatif. The instruments used in this study were observation sheets, interview guide, and documentation. The data was collected by researcher during the Covid-19 pandemic. Face-to-face learning is carried out in schools during a pandemic situation. So, it is quite easy for researcher to collect data. The data collection process is carried out offline. The subjects in this study were two English teachers at SMPN 2 Tanjung Palas.
The results od the research showed that first, the teachers used textbooks, models, pictures, audio-visual aids, and slide projectors. Second, the way the teacher applies teaching  materials  is  by,  Using  textbook  teaching  materials  by  focusing  students' attention on textbooks, using a slide projector as teaching materials by preparing a summary of the material in the form of a slide projector. Power point that displayed by the teacher in front of the class using a slide projector. This can make the learning process more interactive, using models as learning materials, for example by using objects that are around to make it easier for students to understand learning materials, using picture teaching materials, the teacher prepares several pictures as teaching materials and explain the lesson by using the image in accordance with the material presented, and using audio- visual aids as teaching material by using videos that are in accordance with the material being taught.</note>
