This research was supervised by Dr. Umar Fauzan, M.Pd. as the first advisor and Dra. Sitti Hadijah, M.Pd.. as the second advisor. This research is based on SMA Negeri 8 Samarinda's speaking instruction. As is known, some English teachers struggle to teach English through media because they don't speak English daily. The researcher conducted this study to address this issue. Every teacher must be proficient in speaking English language proficiency requires it. This research examines which media are used in speaking instruction and what challenges instructors faced. The effectiveness of speaking instruction at SMA Negeri 8 Samarinda was examined in this qualitative study. This descriptive qualitative study analyzed data using an interview guide, observation notebooks, and documentation. This study examines one teacher and two classrooms. The researcher collected data with the objects. Through documentation, interviews, and observation, the researcher collected data. Miles and Huberman triangulation data were used to analyze the data. The researcher finding showed that the teacher used video, Microsoft PowerPoint, images, audio, smartphones, visual aids such as lcd projector, roleplay, and whiteboard to teach speaking at SMA Negeri 8 Samarinda, according to the research. The instructional media only had a technical issue. The research shows how media affects students.
