Thesis, English Education Department  in State Islamic  University Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris (UINSI) Samarinda. This thesis supervised by Dr. Bahrani, M. Pd, as the first supervisor and Anis Komariah, M. Pd, as the second supervisor.
In teaching listening ability, there are several problems that ofter occur. They include speakers who are too fast, unable to recognize words they know, new vocabulary and unfamiliar pronounciation. This can happen because students are not interested in the way listening skills are taught in the classroom. Thus this study aims to know the effective of using English songs to improve the students’ listening ability.
The  research  methodology employed  is  the  quantitative  pra-experimental method with data collection techniques in the form of pre-test and post-test. The data is taken by giving ten cloze test items to determine students’ listening ability. To obtain this data, researcher involved one experiment group consisting of 32 students at VII D Grade of MTs Al-Azhar Samarinda. The treatment was given to the students in fourth meetings. Finally, the researcher gave the post-test then analyzed the score. The data was analyzed by using t-test to determine whether was s significance between before and after treatment.
The  results  found  that  a  pre-test  average  score  of 82,96  and  a  post-test average score of 90,09, indicating that the post-test score is higher than the pre- test score. Based on the final results of using t-test formula, researcher found that the t-test is greater than the t-table with the level of significance 0,05 and N 32-1 (3,55>2,04). It was concluded that the use of song as a media was effective to improve student’s listening ability at VII D Grade of MTs Al-Azhar Samarinda in the Academic year of 2023/2024.</note>
