Advisor; Mr. Dr. Umar Fauzan, M.Pd as the first advisor and Mrs. Dini Irawati, M.Pd as the second advisor. Speaking is a complex skill among the other three skills in English. Speaking is also an important ability to develop as a student since English learners cannot be removed from learning activities by employing speaking abilities. One of factors that affecting students’ speaking ability is self-esteem. It is believe is an important factor in the process of academic and educational achievement. The aim of this research were to find wether there is any correlation between students’ self- esteem and speaking ability of the fourth semester students at UINSI Samarinda. This research use correlational method with quantitative design. The data were collected using questionnaire and speaking test. The questionnaire was adapted from Aisyah and the speaking test was measured with Jeremy Harmer’s scale rating. The Researcher analyzed all the data using Pearson Product Moment. The population and sample of this research were the students of fourth semester at English Education Department, UINSI Samarinda. There were 23 students in this research. The result of the research shows that there are positive correlation between students’ self-esteem and their speaking ability. The researcher found that the students had high self-esteem 23students (100%) with a mean score of 3.53 and excellent speaking skills 8 students (34.8%) with a mean score 76.5. Furthermore, the coefficient correlation rxy =0.575 > rtable=0.413. It means that the correlation was a medium correlation. Based on the data above, the researcher concludes that the Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected which means that, there is a correlation between students’ self-esteem and their speaking ability in the fourth semester of the English Education Department, UINSI Samarinda.
