Supervisor: (1) Rostanti Toba, M. Pd. (2) Muhammad Azwar Paramma, M. Pd. Reading has an important role in expanding a person's knowledge and enabling them to understand and respond to information presented in various contexts, as well as improving critical and analytical thinking skills. However, not all individuals have the same reading ability, so consistent and gradual practice is needed to develop good reading skills. An effective reading process requires repetition and reflection on the material that has been read, because few people can achieve deep understanding with just one reading. Therefore, it is important to design effective learning strategies to improve students' overall reading comprehension. The objective of this research is to find out whether the use of the gallery walk strategy has a significant influence on students' reading comprehension in narrative texts. The research method employed in this research is a quantitative approach. The applied research design is quasi-experimental. The population under investigation consists of tenth-grade students. The research sample was chosen randomly, comprising two classes: the experimental class with 36 students and the control class with 34 students. The gallery walk strategy was implemented in the experimental class, while the self-question strategy was utilized in the control class to instruct the students. Treatments were conducted over three sessions, each lasting 2 x 45 minutes. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests in reading assessments, consisting of 20 multiple-choice questions for each test. The data were analyzed using SPSS to conduct independent t-sample calculations. The statistical results revealed that the average pre-test score in the experimental class was 50.56, and for the post-test, it was 69.86. Meanwhile, the average pre-test score in the control class was 51.18, and for the post-test, it was 62.50. Additionally, the hypothesis test table showed that the Sig. value was 0.000, which is smaller than α = 0.05. This indicates the rejection of the null hypothesis (Ho) and the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha), since Sig. < α = 0.000. Therefore, it can be concluded that the gallery walk strategy could significantly improve students’ abilities in reading comprehension of narrative text in the tenth grade of SMAN 7 Samarinda in the academic year of 2023/2024.
