Language is very important in this global era in human life. Language is mediator used by people with they have in their mind to others. In language, there is a communication between the sender and receiver. Linguistics is the study of language in a broad and general way. In a broad sense, the scope of linguistics includes all aspects and components of language. Code-mixing is defined as a change in language, or code, during a conversation that does not signal any additional meaning. Speaking is one of basic skill in English and should be learn by the students as a learner of the foreign language. This research discusses about type, the most common, and factor influencing to using code-mixing. The purpose of this thesis to analyze the type of code-mixing that used by the students in English language study program, in State Islamic University Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris Samarinda. It classifies the code-mixing utterances into three types: insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization. It also analyzes the most common for using code-mixing types and the factors/ reason that motivated the students to code-mix their conversation in two language, Indonesia and English. This research is descriptive qualitative research. This research focused on the fourth semester students of State Islamic University Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris Samarinda. The researcher takes 1 out of 3 classes, namely TBI 2 with a total of 22 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used several instruments, namely interview and observation. According to the result of the research, there are three types of code-mixing used by the students, namely insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization. And the most common of using code-mixing is type insertion. The factor influences to using code-mixing is the students lack of vocabulary.</note>
