Supervised by Rostanti Toba, M.PD as the first advisor and Nadia Sya’ya M.Pd, M. TESOL as the second advisor. Reading is one of the four language skills taught in the English language learning process. Since English in Indonesia is a foreign language, there are possibilities that the English language students may get difficulties in comprehending reading text, it may be because of faulty word identification and recognition, or limited special comprehension abilities. The objectives of the research were to identify the students' difficult aspects and factors causing the difficulties of fifth semester of the English Education Department of UINSI Samarinda in comprehending English reading texts. This research used qualitative research as the research design. The subjects of this study were fifth semester students in TBI 2 class. Data were collected through observation and interviews. The researcher used three steps in processing the research data, namely data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. A triangulation method was used as data validation in this research. The results of this research showed that the fifth-semester students of the English Education Department at UINSI Samarinda had difficulties in comprehending English reading texts, especially in determining main ideas, making conclusions, acquiring vocabulary knowledge, and understanding the meaning of words, also a lack of vocabulary, a lack of student interest, and a lack of teacher support. Based on the result, this research aims to provide deeper insights into the difficulties faced by students in comprehending English reading texts and to serve as a foundation for developing more effective teaching strategies in the future.</note>
