Thesis, English Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Sultan Aji Muhammad Idris State Islamic University of Samarinda. This research is under the guidance of Mrs Rostanti Toba, M.Pd as the first advisor and Mrs. Widya Noviana Noor, M.Pd as the second advisor.
In learning English, we have to master four skills those are: reading, listening, writing, and speaking. All of which are important. Speaking is one of the skills that we have to be mastered in learning English. English Educational students should have good or even high speaking ability because they are English teacher candidates who are expected to be able to speak English very well.
This research used a quantitative method. The subject of this research was TBI 3 in the fifth semester. The data were collected using questionnaire and then analyzed using preliminary analysis. The data were validated using the product moment correlation formula.
Findings showed that there the results of the calculation of the product moment correlation are evidenced by the r value of 0,63 the number is in the interval between the values of 0,6 – 0,744 based on the interpretation scale, the number is strong so it can be concluded that students' participation and their self-efficacy in speaking English class at the fifth semester of UINSI Samarinda, the correlation is strong. The contribution of students' participation and their self-efficacy in speaking English class is 39%. where H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. Thus, students’ participation and their self-efficacy had a significant correlation and contribution in their speaking class. It meant that the students had to pay attention in participation and their self-efficacy, so the students could have good English speaking.</note>
