Discourse analysis is a study that researches or analyzes language both in writing and orally. In this research, the media used is Instagram, which is one of the  most  popular  applications  used  many  people  today.  The  purpose  of  this research was to find out the types of linguistic features and the meaning to be conveyed in linguistic features on Instagram caption.
The method that has been used during this research was qualitative descriptive  method.  In  addition,  the  instruments  used  in  this  study  were  the research itself, observation and documentation. Data collection by observing the subject in each class and then asked to send it in the form of screenshots. This research observed online, because there was still a COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, so it could be via WhatsApp only. The subjects of this research were English Department Students consisting of batch 2018 in IAIN Samarinda.
The results of this study were that 50 captions were obtained from English Department Students and it was found that used of this types of linguistic features in writing captions on Instagram. Firstly, there were several linguistic features in writing such as, 1) Lexical features; code mixing, interjection, abbreviation, word letter replacement. 2) Orthographic; capitalization, bold letter, word spelling. 3) Paralinguistic  and  graphic  features;  use  of emoticons  and  use  of punctuation marks.  4)  Discourse  features;  the  stream of consciousness  and  coherence.  5) Grammatical features; sentence structure. The existence of this linguistic feature makes the research carried out by the researcher very unique and increases knowledge of the types of language used in writing captions on Instagram. Secondly, Discourse Analysis results, namely messages or meanings conveyed by students in captions on Instagram and in linguistic features.</note>
