Writing is so important because it helps us to expressed ideas, thoughts, experiments, and others. Mastering writing skill is not as simple as only asking students to write something. They need to pay attention to grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and others. Based on the syllabus, the students of the third grade should be able to learn and produce several kinds of text, one of them is procedure text. The objectives of this research were to know (a) how is the students’ achievement in writing procedure text at the third grade of students MTs Labbaika and (b) what is the difficulties of the element that the students faced in writing procedure text.
The researcher used descriptive quantitative as the research design. The main instrument of this research was writing test. The population of this research was the third grade students of MTs Labbaika. The total of population was 140 students, the researcher took 25% of population. The sample of this research used cluster random sampling, that were 35 students in class 9A. The writing assessment that conducted by Hughes, mean formula by Hadi, criteria level of writing that conducted by school, and the last percentage formula by Sudjiono was used to analyzed the data.
Based on the research finding, the students’ achievement in writing procedure text was on the good level. It was proved by the students’ average score of the test was 72,22. Furthermore, the difficulties element that the students faced in writing procedure text was on language use or grammar. It was proved by 57,1% or 20 students who got the 3 score and 2,9% or 1 student who got the 2 score. It means, more than half of the students has problem with language use or grammar.</note>
