Youtube has been developed into a practical learning medium for students. It is used as an interactive learning medium between teachers and students. Youtube has 3 main benefits in its role as a learning media. These advantages are that the students can enhancing cross-cultural sensitivity, content knowledge and skills in L2, and refine an understanding of English as a global language. The objectives of the research are to find out what are the students’ perceptions of the use of Youtube in English learning, and the factors that support the students in the use of Youtube for English learning.
This research was a quantitative research. The data were gathered by using descriptive survey method. The instruments used in this research are a questionnaire, interview, and observation. Then to analyse the data the researcher combines the answers given in the questionnaire session into a table. Afterward, on the data obtained in the interview process, the researcher analyze it using the flow model from Miles and Huberman. This research began in the eighth grade at SMP Negeri 3 Samarinda on March 9, 2022, during the 2021-2022 academic year. The participants in this research were eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Samarinda during the 2021–2022 school year. Nevertheless, the researcher only took 2 classes out of a total of 8 classes, 8A and 8B, with 72 students each, as subjects.
Based on the result of this research, the results of this research exhibit positive outcomes. Firstly, based on the results of questionnaires, interviews, and observations shown previously, it can be concluded that 73,4% of students have a positive perception of Youtube. Most participants agree that they like Youtube because it can help them learn English. Therefore, the research results show that Youtube can be used as an alternative teaching medium to improve students` English learning outcomes. Secondly, the following research results show that many factors can support students using Youtube as an English learning media, including value, practice, and ease of use.</note>
