Morphology and  Syntax are  two  important  branches  of  Linguistic  that focus on analyzing the structure of language. Morphology and Syntax have their own urgency which makes them very important to learn. Morphology and syntax can increase students‟ communication skills  both in reading and language because this is closely related to grammar and part of speech. The 1843 work entitled The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe was chosen to be the data and source of data because this work is included in the category of works that are in great demand in Indonesia. This objectives of the research are: (1) to describe what are types of morpheme, and (2) to describe what are type of sentence used in Edgar Allan Poe‟s Short Story entitled The Tell-Tale Heart.
Descriptive qualitative method, which according to Denscombe is one of the research about analyzing the word used as the design for this research. According to Lincoln and Guba, qualitative research should have two instruments, primary and secondary. The primary instrument in this study belongs to researcher himself while the secondary instrument was the data sheet, the text of the short story, the oxford dictionary, and also some previous studies that related. Then to collect the data, the researcher used the visual analysis technique which the researcher  observed  the  morphosyntactic  aspect  through  the  subject  of  the research. The subject of the research for this study was the 17 paragraphs and 120 sentences of The Tell-Tale Heart short story.
The results of this research show positive things that can answer the 2 research problems that have been mentioned. Firstly, the types of morphemes used  included  lexical  nouns  (48),  lexical  verbs  (50),  lexical  adjectives    (34), lexical prepositions (17), lexical adverbs (27), functions (12), suffixes –ful (3), suffixes –ness (2), suffixes –ly or –y (14), suffix –fully (1), numbers (16), possessives (1), past forms (31), plural nouns (2), comparatives (6), and gerunds (14).  Secondly,  the  types  of  sentences  used  included  simple  sentences  (17), compound sentences (5), complex sentences (2) and compound-complex sentence (1).</note>
